Allegany County legislators officially created two jobs Monday -- a registered nurse and a janitor.
The registered nurse, in the Social Services Department, will be paid at a rate to be determined by the civil service office.
The janitor's job, in the Public Works Department, will become available in June. The wage rate was not specified. Public Works Director David Roeske said the janitor will work in the new jail complex, scheduled to open this year.
The Legislature also:
* Took two steps toward establishing county sewer and water districts to serve the area around Route 19 and the Southern Tier Expressway in Belvidere, where a water park and hotel complex are proposed. It also is the home of the county's Crossroads Conference and Commerce Center and a truck stop.
Legislators named County Administrator John E. Margeson lead officer in drafting maps and plans for the water and sewer districts. They also transferred $16,400 from an employee benefit account to an account to pay for the work.
The districts would cover parts of the towns of Friendship and Amity. Friendship will receive service from the crossroads area, located in Amity.
* Heard Public Health Educator Lori Ballengee and Dr. Gary W. Ogden, public health director, outline the Health Department's five-year plan.
Ballengee noted that in several areas, such as alcohol-related accidents and death among young people, the county's rates exceed state and Western New York averages.
