Esther H. Mick, a retired nurse, died Sunday in her home after a brief illness, during which she received care from Niagara Hospice. She was 66.
She was born Esther Himes in Brookville, Pa. Her family moved to Niagara Falls when she was a child, and she graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She earned her nursing degree at Deaconess Hospital, Buffalo.
Mrs. Mick was a registered nurse for more than 45 years, starting at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She later joined the Niagara Falls School District and was a school nurse for more than 30 years. After retiring from the school system in 2001, she joined the Gynecology and Obstetrics Association of Western New York in Lewiston.
During the 1970s, Mrs. Mick was a nurse captain in the Army Reserve.
She enjoyed her cats, clown collecting and reading.
Her husband of 24 years, Jerry R., died Jan. 9, 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Kim Browning of Rochester; a son, Jerry Jr. of Niagara Falls; a brother, Joseph Himes of Rockville, Md.; a sister, Grace Himes of Niagara Falls; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
