The University at Buffalo's best bet in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament would be as a No. 7 seed. First off, that would guarantee the Bulls an opening-round home game. If UB wins that one -- no gimme the way this season has fizzled -- it would play the West Division champion (likely Northern Illinois) in the quarterfinals in Cleveland. That would be a much better option than a quarterfinal against any of the strong teams ahead of UB in the MAC East.
Canisius can't win for winning. The Golden Griffins' Rating Percentage Index figure actually got worse after last Saturday's victory over Youngstown State, dropping from No. 265 to No. 272.
The St. Bonaventure men aren't going to the Atlantic 10 Tournament and it looks like the Bona women will finish in the bottom two of the conference and suffer the same fate. That could mean the end for coach Jim Crowley, who entered Friday's home finale against Richmond just 52-112 in his six seasons.
