A RECEPTION and slide presentation of the art of the late Violet Gordon will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a meeting of the Buffalo-Lille Association in the Butler Library at Buffalo State College, 1300 Elmwood Ave. A nationally recognized artist, Gordon was a master colorist with consummate technical ability in many styles. The presenter will be Bonnie Gordon Flickinger.

PETER JABLONSKI of Amherst sent word that the Greater Buffalo Bottle Collectors Association is sponsoring a lecture by brewery historian David Mik Wednesday evening in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow Road and Springville Avenue, Eggertsville.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Mik's presentation -- "The History of Buffalo Breweries" -- will begin at 8. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Jablonski, president of the association, wrote that there will be a display of antique beer bottles and Buffalo brewery signs and trays at the meeting. For information, call 440-7985.


SCHOLARSHIP applications are being accepted until April 1 by the Professional & Business Women of Polonia for the organization's 2006 program.

The PBW scholarship program provides financial awards to American women of Polish descent to help them in their chosen fields. Applicants must be enrolled and pursuing an undergraduate degree in an accredited college or university in the United States. They must be residents of Allegany, Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara or Wyoming counties.

Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Rita Brown, 15 Calla Way, Cheektowaga, NY 14225. The PBW of Polonia was formed in 1994 to promote Polish-American women and women who support the people and issues of the Polish community in Western New York.


COMPLETES BASIC -- Pvt. Matthew R. Lundgren, son of Robert and Brenda Lundgren of Frewsburg, has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is a 2004 graduate of Frewsburg High School.
