Mary Beth Nichols of Getzville, a retired registered nurse and respiratory therapist, died Monday in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness. She was 49.
Born in Buffalo, Ms. Nichols attended Bishop Neumann High School and graduated from Amherst High School in 1974.
She earned an associate's degree in applied science from Erie Community College in 1977 and a medical assistant secretarial degree from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in 1981.
After graduating from Trocaire College in 1998 with an associate's degree in applied science, she received her license as a registered nurse.
Ms. Nichols worked for more than 15 years as a respiratory therapist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She was a registered nurse at the Cantalician Center. She retired due to illness in 2001.
She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Schussmeister Ski Club at the University at Buffalo for many years.
Survivors include four brothers, Mark of Buffalo, Joe of Amherst, Tom of Corfu and Paul of Oakland Park, Fla.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5337 Genesee St., Bowmansville.
