Johnnie Mae Johnson-Beard, homemaker April 14, 1955 -- Feb. 18, 2006

Johnnie Mae Johnson-Beard, a Buffalo resident and mother of five, died of heart failure Saturday in her East Side home. She was 50.

Born Johnnie Mae Johnson in Alexander, Ala., she moved to Buffalo with her family in 1956. She attended East High School,

Those close to her described her as a dedicated stay-at-home mother and role model.

She was a member of the Gospel Choral Union of Buffalo and enjoyed bingo, cards, watching soap operas and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

Among her survivors, all of Buffalo, are: her husband, Ulysses; two daughters, Deleris N. Austin and Devin Kirkwood; three sons, David, Derek and Daniel; two sisters, Unita Jamison and Opelia Johnson-Rivers; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday in Thankful Missionary Baptist Church, 197 Sumner Place. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
