Angelo George Bova of Depew, a retired steelworker and a silver medalist in the Empire State Senior Games, died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, after a lengthy illness. He was 74.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Bova worked at Republic Steel Corp. as a crane operator, retiring in the 1980s.
A hunter and fisherman, he took up target shooting with the bow and arrow in retirement, going on to win three silver medals in archery in the Empire State Senior Games. He was a member of the Allied Sportsmen's Club.
He and his wife, the former Teresa Giampaolo, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Maria Bernal of East Aurora; a sister, Nancy Schank of Hamburg; and three granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Resurrection Catholic Church, 130 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, after prayers at 9:15 in Barron-Miller Funeral Home, 3025 William St., Cheektowaga. Entombment will be in Our Lady of the Rosary Mausoleum, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
