Leona Brown, a retired East Side beauty shop owner, died Saturday in Erie County Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was 77.
She was born Leona Lee in Columbia, Miss., where she graduated from Lampton Vocational High School.
Mrs. Brown moved to Buffalo in 1951 and opened Lee Brown's Beauty Shop Lounge on Durham Street. She retired in 1997.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Samuel C.; four daughters, Loretta Bonner, Denise Williams, Sheila Gillison and Shameka Hester; and three sons, Charlie, Michael and Johnny Ray, all of Buffalo; a brother, Robert Hendricks Jr. of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, 701 E. Delavan Ave. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
