Dr. George O. Evans, a retired dentist, died Saturday in Eastside Nursing Home. He was 86.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of the University of Buffalo Dental School. He had a dental practice in Arcade for 29 years and in Castile for six years before retiring in 1982.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Dr. Evans was a member of Arcade United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.
He also was a member of the Masonic lodge in Arcade, former treasurer of Castile Cordelia Greene Library and had worked with area Boy Scout troops.
He loved the Silver Lake area and enjoyed swimming, waterskiing, biking and jogging.
His wife, Mary Courter Evans, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Benstead of Silver Lake; two sons, Paul of Annapolis, Md., and Ralph of Warsaw; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be scheduled.
