Donald R. Fakler, former millwright, pilot
July 30, 1930 -- Feb. 13, 2006

Donald R. Fakler, a former Orchard Park resident and Bethlehem Steel retiree, died Monday at his home in Salem, S.C., after a long illness. He was 75.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Fakler was raised in Ebenezer and moved to Orchard Park in 1959.

He was a founder of Armor Bible Presbyterian Church in Orchard Park.

He worked as a millwright and welder for Bethlehem Steel from 1954 until retiring in 1993.

A former member of the Army National Guard, Mr. Fakler was a private pilot who loved flying.

He moved to South Carolina in 2001.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Joan Lein; a daughter, Jennifer J. Marchetti of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, Jeffrey N. of Buffalo; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster, S.C.
