Free For All The no-cost way to go

There's a variety of great free music on tap this weekend, beginning tonight with the Ben Allison New Quartet. The News' Jeff Miers calls Allison's jazz "the real deal." Judge for yourself at 8 p.m. today in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Auditorium, 1285 Elmwood Ave., when Allison's quartet plays as part of Gusto at the Gallery. And on Sunday the Buffalo Chamber Music Society presents Russian pianist Gleb Ivanov as part of the group's Gift to the Community series. Cheech Marin's career has hardly gone up in smoke since the "Cheech and Chong" heyday. He keeps busy with roles on TV and in the movies, has built an impressive collection of Chicano art and even has his own line of hot sauces. Valentine's Day has passed, but Cupid is hanging around for a Singles Experience dance at 9 p.m. today in Elks Lodge 346, 1805 Factory Outlet Blvd., Niagara Falls. Tickets cost $5 to $7. Wear red! Also this weekend, check out a benefit production of "The Vagina Monologues," one of the local events marking V-Day, a global effort to end violence against women. The production, raising funds for RAINN and Crisis Services, takes place at 8 p.m. today and Saturday in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 695 Elmwood Ave. Tickets are $15 and are available at New World Record, 765 Elmwood Ave.
