NIAGARA FALLS -- Mary J. Murtaugh, a former employee of Kimberly-Clark Corp. and Nabisco, died Sunday in ElderWood at Crestwood Healthcare Center. She was 96.
Born Mary Maloney in Niagara Falls, she was a lifelong resident of the city and attended local schools. During the late 1920s and early 1930s, she worked for both Kimberly-Clark and Nabisco.
For several years, Mrs. Murtaugh was a member of the Elks Ladies, where she volunteered as a bingo worker. She enjoyed the Buffalo Bills, horse racing and nurturing houseplants, especially African violets.
Her husband of nearly 50 years, John, died in 1989.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Oakes of Niagara Falls; two sons, Robert of Niagara Falls and David of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Agnes Hayes of Williamsburg, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 N. Military Road. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
