>Grand Island student charged in school threat

A 14-year-old Grand Island High School student was charged Tuesday with felony falsely reporting an incident after he allegedly made a threat directed at the school, Erie County sheriff's deputies reported.

The threat was received at about 9:45 a.m. in a call to a 911 operator. The call was traced to the juvenile, who admitted making it, police said.

He was petitioned to Erie County Family Court and is also expected to face disciplinary charges at school.

It is the second time a threat has been made at the school in as many weeks, police said.


>Man sought after woman held for 2 days escapes

A Woodlawn Avenue woman was held against her will for more than two days and severely beaten before she escaped Tuesday morning, Buffalo police reported.

The woman told police the man held her on the 700 block of Woodlawn Avenue from about 1 a.m. Sunday until 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. She was punched in the face several times and beaten with a metal rod and a leather weight-lifting belt. The man also threatened her with a hot iron and put it on her face, she told police.

The man also forced the woman to drink brandy laced with crushed drugs, police reports said.

Police were searching for the man, who has at least four known aliases, according to reports.


>Batavia fire causes $15,000 damage to house

BATAVIA -- No injuries were reported in an early morning fire Tuesday on Franklin Street, fire officials reported.

The blaze, which affected the living room and basement, broke out at about 2:30 a.m. at 25 Franklin St. Damage was estimated at $15,000.

The cause is under investigation.
