M&T Bank Corp. thinks Tim Hortons stores have some good things going for them: visible locations and easy access for drivers.
So the bank plans to install stand-alone, drive-up ATMs in four more of the coffee and doughnut chain's parking lots.
"It's a good way to supplement our existing branch network," said C. Michael Zabel, a spokesman for M&T.
The bank has asked permission from the state Banking Department to install the ATM kiosks near Tim Hortons stores in the Town of Lancaster, the Town of Hamburg, East Amherst and Perinton, which is a Rochester suburb. Approval is expected within a few weeks.
Tim Hortons has 270 locations in the United States, including about 50 in the Buffalo area.
M&T already has drive-up kiosks in two Tim Hortons parking lots: in Clarence and Perinton. The first of the two, in Clarence, was installed in October 2000.
The bank also has stand-alone ATMs in a McDonald's parking lot in Williamsville, a Days Inn parking lot near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, and the McKinley Mall parking lot, Zabel said.
It also recently indicated it would put an ATM at Six Flags Hotel in Queensbury, in the Adirondacks, at two Monroe Community College locations, and in three Sheetz convenience stores in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
