Addie Mae Funderburk of Buffalo, who worked at Roswell Park Cancer Institute for more than 20 years, died Sunday in Millard Fillmore Hospital after a brief illness. She was 79.
Born in Lancaster, S.C., where she was educated, the former
Addie Mae Blackmon came to Western New York in 1952. She went to work at Roswell Park in 1962 as a laboratory technician and retired in 1983.
Known as "Granny," she not only looked after the needs of her own children, but also took care of all the youngsters in the community, her family said.
Survivors, all of Buffalo, include her husband of 63 years, George Sr.; two daughters, Rosana Birtha and Roxanne; a son, Kelly Sr.; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday in St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
