Ruth J. Weihrich of Amherst, a freelance photographer, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a long illness. She was 85. Born Ruth Beeler in Lucerne, Switzerland, she moved to Buffalo as a child with her family.
Mrs. Weihrich was a secretary for 20 years at Remington Rand. She was a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and a freelance photographer since 1940. Newspapers and magazines published her photographs.
She served as the official photographer for the Zoologic Society of Buffalo from 1964 to 1974.
Mrs. Weihrich presented travel slide shows in the area and in Canada. She participated in exhibits and won awards in national competitions. She also served as a judge in contests.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert.
