Two-car crash leaves both drivers injured

CHAUTAUQUA -- Two people suffered minor injuries in a two-car crash Thursday morning on Open Meadows Road.

Sheriff's deputies said a car driven by Charles Derby, 71, of Lakewood, collided with a southbound car operated by Jason Propheter, 31, of Mayville, which rolled over into a ditch.

Derby was treated for a hand injury at the scene, while Propheter was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment. Information on his status was not available.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Wellsville man faces child porn charges

WELLSVILLE -- Village police charged Ryan Billings, 29, of Wellsville, Wednesday with two child pornography counts.

Billings is accused of promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child. He was arrested after a local business objected to his use of its photocopying equipment, authorities said.

Village Justice Will Goetschius remanded Billings to Allegany County Jail in Belmont in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is due back in court on Feb. 28.

Suspect in baby shaking now accused of assault

JAMESTOWN -- A city man indicted in connection with a baby-shaking incident last summer was arrested Wednesday on an assault charge, Jamestown police reported.

Jeffrey S. Wood, 35, of West Eighth Street, was indicted on the felony charge by a Chautauqua County grand jury that heard evidence related to the June 25, 2005, incident.

Police said Wood is accused of shaking his child, then 4 months old, causing serious injuries.

The current status of the child wasn't disclosed Wednesday by police.

Wood was awaiting arraignment in County Court.
