Robert E. Mumm, a retired Bethlehem Steel worker, died Sunday -- three days after his 77th birthday -- in St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Las Vegas, after a long illness.
The Buffalo native graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School.
He started at Bethlehem Steel Corp. in the 1950s and worked there as a computer operator until retiring in 1982.
Mr. Mumm, who lived in Cheektowaga until moving to Las Vegas in 1997, enjoyed bowling and watching sports.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Mary Scharmach; three sons, Robert of Henderson, Nev., Joseph of Oakland, Calif., and Richard of Cheektowaga; two daughters, Maryann Aquilina of Buffalo and Theresa Velazquez of Princeton, Texas; two brothers, John of Hamburg and Donald of San Diego; a sister, Shirley Schlatterer of Cheektowaga; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A service was held today in Las Vegas.
