'Friends of Falletta' concert supports international contest

JoAnn Falletta, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra music director, will play in a classical guitar trio concert with Joanne Castellani and Michael Andriaccio during a fund-raising event March 14 in Kleinhans Music Hall, sponsored by the newly-formed "Friends of Falletta."

John D. and Paula Joy Reinhold are chairmen of the organization's first fund-raiser to support the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition -- the world's only contest of its kind, according to BPO publicists.

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. in the Mary Seaton Room of Kleinhans.
The musical performance at 7 will feature works by Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Schubert and Piazzolla. Coffee and desserts at 8 p.m. will conclude the evening.

Tickets are $75 each. Call (888) 223-6000.

The second biennial Falletta competition will be held June 6-10 in Kleinhans Music Hall. Co-sponsors are the BPO and Western New York Public Broadcasting Association's WNED.

The first competition, in 2004, brought classical guitarists from 10 countries to Buffalo.
