Stanley F. Kantanista, who owned a meat market here for 35 years, died Thursday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness. He was 91.
A graduate of Trott Vocational High School, he worked 14 years as a laborer at Carborundum Co.
He and his wife then opened Kantanista's Meat Market at 19th and Falls streets, which remained in business until the early 1980s.
Mr. Kantanista was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and senior citizens group; the St. John Kanty Society; and the Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, the former Helen Polniak; a son, Carl of Las Vegas; a daughter, Barbara Grabiec of Grand Island; two sisters, Casimera Setlik of North Tonawanda and Virginia Laskowski of Niagara Falls; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1419 Falls St., preceded by prayers at 11 in Zajac Funeral Home, 319 24th St. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston.
