A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ellen "Mert" Bongiovanni will be offered at 10:30 a.m. today in St. Amelia Church, 2999 Eggert Road, Town of Tonawanda, preceded by prayers at 9:45 in Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
Mrs. Bongiovanni died in her Town of Tonawanda home Tuesday after a long illness. She was 69.
Born Mary Ellen Hake in Tipton, Kan., she attended Mary Mount College in Salina, Kan.
She married Francis "Bud" Bongiovanni of Buffalo in 1957.
She had been a receptionist for H&R Block for 14 years, leaving last year for health reasons.
Mrs. Bongiovanni enjoyed arts and crafts.
In her addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Janell Reitler of Amherst, Sandra Hickey of Town of Tonawanda and Debra Balcerak of Clarence; a son, Craig of Pendleton; her mother, Pauline Hake of Tipton, Kan.; five sisters, Estelle Schuster and Joan Palen, both of Beloit, Kan, Tudy Gilette of Tipton, Diane Palen of Denver, and Darlene Streit of Salina, Kan.; four brothers, Edgar and Ken, both of Tipton, Msgr. James of Lincoln, Kan., and Ron of Arlington, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.
