David P. Hegedus Sr., Vietnam veteran
June 8, 1947 -- Feb. 3, 2006

David P. Hegedus Sr., a Vietnam veteran, died Friday in his home. He was 58.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Hegedus graduated from West Seneca High School and earned an associate's degree from Jamestown Community College.

A former Lakewood resident, he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Cummins Engine Plant in Busti since 1978.

Mr. Hegedus coached Lakewood Little League and softball and Falconer area soccer teams. He was also a Cub Scout leader in Lakewood.

His other interests included NASCAR, woodworking, landscaping, small engine repair, furniture restoration, country music, fishing and swimming.

Survivors include his mother, Elsie of Orchard Park; a daughter, Helen Keefe of Falconer; a son, David P. Jr. of Pittsburgh; a sister, Judith Beck of California; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lind Funeral Home, 805 West Third St., Jamestown. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
