Stella Battaglia, co-owned motel, restaurant May 3, 1914 -- Feb. 1, 2006

Stella "Peggy" Battaglia, who operated a motel and restaurant with her husband, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston. She was 91.

She was born Stella Andrzejewski in North Tonawanda and attended local schools.

She moved to Niagara Falls in 1934 and married Salvatore Battaglia in 1935.

She worked in the meat department of the A&P Food Market and later Tops Market in Niagara Falls.

For several years, she and her husband owned and operated Duffy's Motel and Restaurant. He died in 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Perri of Lewiston; a son, Salvatore "Sam" Jr. of Niagara Falls; a sister, Mary Kubus of Buffalo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Prayers will be said at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
