Harriet Frances Jaeger, a Cheektowaga homemaker for more than 60 years, died Jan. 16 in ElderWood Health Care at Oakwood, Amherst. She was 91.
Born Harriet Schaumburg in Hornell, she moved to the Buffalo area with her family as a child. She was a graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School.
Her daughter Linda E., of Amherst, said her mother was an avid gardener who passed on her hobby to her children. She said she especially loved growing violets.
"She had upwards of 75 of them. She would grow them from a little leaf. She had that knack," she said.
Mrs. Jaeger and her husband, Richard, built a home on Burke Drive in Cheektowaga in the mid-1930s and raised their family there. Mr. Jaeger died in 1987 after 51 years of marriage.
Mrs. Jaeger was a member of Amherst Community Church and a number of women's groups there, her daughter said.
She also is survived by another daughter, Carol B. Roswick of Sanbornton, N.H.; four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave., Snyder.
