Genevieve Sprucebank, a retired medical secretary, died Monday in her home in Seffner, Fla., after a brief illness. She was 88.
Born Genevieve Smith in Pittsburgh, she graduated from Taylor Alderdice High School there.
A homemaker, she also worked as a legal secretary in Pittsburgh and in the Buffalo area, where she moved in the mid-1940s.
Mrs. Sprucebank later worked as a medical secretary at a laboratory in Amherst, retiring in the early 1980s. She moved to Florida a few years later.
She was a retired member of the Depew Hose Company No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary, Twin Village Art Society and Depew Homemakers Club.
She had been a volunteer painting instructor at the Senior Citizens Center of Brandon, Fla. Her artwork was in many exhibitions.
Mrs. Sprucebank's husband of 64 years, Ralph J., died in 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Nicolazzo of Monroeville, Pa., and Charlene Jones of Seffner; a sister, Eleanor Shillady of Monroeville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday in Monroeville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
