PROTESTERS SHOULDN'T BLAME GAY MEN FOR ABUSE SCANDAL

I am dismayed, troubled and saddened by the people who picketed outside Blessed Trinity Catholic Church contesting a performance by a male, homosexual choir. Jesus sought out sinners and welcomed them to be reunited with his father. He welcomed all people. Would it not have been more Christ-like for these people to model a spirit of care and community to those they view as "wayward"?

I am further distressed that they equate this event with "the scandal . . . of homosexual predators in the church for decades." The sexual abuse disgrace faced by the Church was not a result of gay males. To characterize it as such is to blind ourselves to those who can be dangerous to our community and scapegoat a group that has already been ostracized from the Catholic Church community.
