Monday is the deadline for homeowners in Erie County's 25 towns to apply for a break on their school property taxes through the School Tax Relief (STAR) program.
The application deadline applies only to those who have never applied for the STAR exemption, moved to a new home, or turned 65 and need to reapply for the enhanced STAR program.
Homeowners who receive the exemption already and haven't moved recently are automatically renewed.
Last year, New York homeowners saved an average of $811 on their school property taxes because of the STAR program, while senior citizens saved an average of $1,189.
Applications are available at local assessors' offices or can be found online at www.orps.state.ny.us.
