VEHICLE PROBLEMS RESULT IN DWI CHARGE

Problems with his vehicle got an Ellicottville motorist pulled over by Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies, but he ended up going to jail on a charge of drunken driving.

Deputies said Rodney J. Chapman, 37, was pulled over on Interstate 86 in the Town of Carrollton late Wednesday because his truck had unauthorized lights and an inadequate exhaust.

After Chapman failed several field sobriety tests, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, deputies said. A felony charge was lodged because Chapman had been convicted of DWI in 1997.

Chapman also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Following arraignment in Carrollton Town Court, he was released from the county jail on $200 bail.
