Police in Orleans County said a jawbone found along the Lake Ontario shoreline on April 20 belongs to a 39-year-old Canadian man who committed suicide two years ago.

According to Undersheriff Steve Smith, a couple from Batavia was walking along Lakeshore Road when they found the jawbone. The couple told the Sheriff's Marine Unit at Point Breeze road, which then sent it to the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office in Rochester.

The medical examiner, along with the State Police and Niagara Regional Police in Ontario, then found a match to dental records of the man. Police are not releasing the name of the man.

The man, according to authorities, jumped to his death in a canal in Ontario, which flows into the Niagara River and ultimately into the lake.
