PATIENT, 54, STILL MISSING FROM NURSING HOME

Niagara County sheriff's deputies today said they still have not located a 54-year-old man who has been missing from Heritage Manor Nursing Home since Monday.

Nursing home officials told Niagara County sheriff's deputies that Richard "Ricky" Schnitzer often walks away but usually returns for dinner and his medication. He is being medicated for schizophrenia, deputies said.

The sheriff's canine unit was called in Monday afternoon, and search dogs trailed Schnitzer's scent for several blocks, from Ransomville Road to New Road, then lost the scent. Border Patrol helicopters widened the search Thursday.

Schnitzer is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 140 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and brown eyes. He was wearing blue jeans, a Buffalo Bills jacket, a straw cowboy hat and cowboy boots when he disappeared at about 4 p.m. Monday. He has poor vision and left without his glasses.
