HUMPHREY TO SEEK GOP NOD FOR TREASURER

The Perry Republican supervisor is running for Wyoming County treasurer.

Anne Humphrey, 56, will seek the Wyoming County Republican Party's endorsement on May 26 to succeed longtime Republican treasurer John Edwards.

She made the announcement at Tuesday's Wyoming County Board of Supervisors Public Health Committee meeting. Humphrey has been Perry supervisor for 12 years.

The treasurer drafts an annual preliminary budget that then goes to a public hearing and is ultimately acted on by the Board of Supervisors.

"We want to make sure we have a stable financial condition and avoid future chaos," Humphrey said.

Republicans outnumber Democrats in the county by a wide margin. Democrats have not yet announced a candidate for treasurer in the fall elections.

In 2001, Humphrey was selected as the first chairwoman in the history of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. She held the position for a year. She served as vice-chairwoman of the Finance Committee from 2001 to 2004.
