Sister Mary Salome, a Felician sister for 75 years and parochial school teacher for 40, died Tuesday in the Felician Sisters Health and Wellness Center. She was 93.
The former Cunegunda "Connie" Olewski entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on June 23, 1929, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 29, 1937.
She graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy and had a bachelor's degree in education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College.
She taught at various Catholic elementary schools within the Diocese of Buffalo for 40 years, including St. Amelia School, Town of Tonawanda.
Sister Mary Salome also taught at Holy Trinity School in the Diocese of Erie, Pa., and St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Binghamton, in the Diocese of Syracuse.
She also ministered for several years at Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children in Cheektowaga.
When she became a member of the Provincial House in 1983, she ministered in hospitality at the convent office. During the next 15 years, she assisted with funeral ministry for the sisters.
Because of ill health, she entered St. Francis Residence Convent in 2000. She became a patient in the Felician Sisters Health and Wellness Center on Dec. 17, 2003.
Survivors include her sister, Lillian Halasinski of Dunkirk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in Villa Maria Convent Chapel, 600 Doat St. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
