POLICE SEIZE BOY'S BIKE, ISSUE MOTHER A TICKET

An 8-year-old boy's bicycle was seized by police and his mother was ticketed after the boy was involved in two collisions with motor vehicles in two days, police said Tuesday.

The boy wasn't seriously injured either time, according to police.

The first accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Winsor and Crescent streets, where he was struck by a van, police said. At about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, he was hit by an SUV at the intersection of East Second and Winsor streets -- a block away from the earlier accident.

Police said the boy was at fault for both accidents, and neither motorist was charged. The boy's bicycle lacked brakes, police said.

The boy's mother, Tammy Patterson, 30, was cited for allowing her child to ride a bicycle without brakes and without a protective helmet. She is to appear May 11 in Traffic Court.
