Dave Patchen, a beer truck driver from Oregon, Ohio, overtook first-round leader Tom Baker of Buffalo to lead the qualifying for the PBA Senior Clarksville (Tenn.) Open. Patchen, a left-hander, had a 16-game total of 3,734 (233.4 average). Baker is second with 3,696 (230.9) after averaging 216.25 Monday.

Baker started Monday with scores of 213, 198, 227. He closed with a 192.

"I couldn't carry at all today," Baker said. "I kept leaving 10-pins after leaving none of them yesterday. . . . I was holding my breath to strike."

The 137-bowler field was to be cut to the top one-third for eight more games of qualifying today.
