State Sen. Byron W. Brown received backing in his mayoral bid Monday from the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association, marking yet another key endorsement by a municipal union.
At a news conference in the union's office in Police Headquarters, Robert P. Meegan union president, called Brown, a Democrat, "the most qualified and capable person running for mayor." The police union joins Buffalo firefighters and Local 650, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which represents other city workers, in supporting Brown.
Brown's campaign office said the backing represents his "strong commitment to public safety," while the candidate said he looks forward to working with the police union.
"I proudly accept this endorsement because I have great respect for the difficult work performed by the men and women of the Buffalo Police Department," Brown said.
