TOWN GOP COMMITTEE NAMES 4 CANDIDATES

The Cheektowaga Republican Committee has announced its candidates for the Town Board and for Erie County Legislative District No. 8.

Seeking Town Board seats are Charles Markel and Diane Benczkowski. Markel is a small-business owner. He and his wife, Sandy, founded Ryan's Hope, a group that teaches lifesaving skills, after the drowning death of their son, Ryan. Benczkowski is a member of the Depew School Board.

Jeff Sell and Bryan Fiume are seeking the legislative seat. Whichever candidate does not receive the endorsement for the county race will become the third candidate for the Town Board, said Mitchell A. Martin, chairman of the town GOP party.

Sell, a disabled veteran, works for the Veterans Benefits Administration, and Fiume is interning with the Buffalo Common Council.

"All of our candidates have been living in Cheektowaga for many years and want to see changes made in the town and the county," Martin said.
