Warm Springs

A U.K. actor playing a U.S. president? Northern Ireland native Kenneth Branagh shines as Franklin D. Roosevelt in this new biodrama. As co-star Tim Blake Nelson points out, someone who didn't grow up revering Roosevelt can more easily portray his human side. The film chronicles how the polio-stricken future president's experiences at a rundown Georgia mineral spa shaped his personal and political philosophies. Cynthia Nixon also stars. (TVPG) HDTV547943

Boxing

James Toney's had heavyweight championship dreams since turning pro in 1988, or 74 bouts and about 70 pounds ago. Tonight, the former middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight champ gets his chance in a title bout against John Ruiz at New York's Madison Square Garden. Toney (68-4-2, 43 KOs) may be rusty, though: injuries have limited him to two fights the past two years. Ruiz (41-5-1, 28 KOs) beat Hasim Rahman to win the WBA heavyweight belt in 2003. 586092

Show Boat

Despite its dated take on race relations, this 1951 musical deserves a place among the classics. Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson star as a gambler and a showboat captain's daughter who become the performing troupe's lead players and fall in love offstage. Ava Gardner does a heart-wrenching turn as a woman forced to leave the troupe when her ethnicity becomes an issue. William Warfield's "Old Man River" is the musical high point. 5861769
