A SOLDIER HONORED: OLEAN MAN RECEIVES PURPLE HEART

Wounded in service: Spc. Todd Reed of Olean, flanked by his children, Heather, 12, and David Lawson, 9, received a Purple Heart Saturday during a ceremony at the Pepsi Center in Amherst for Buffalo-based members of the 1st Battalion, 127th Armor New York National Guard. While reassigned to another battalion in Iraq, Reed was wounded Dec. 3 by an improvised explosive device. The Purple Heart is presented to service members wounded or killed in combat, during a terrorist attack or as part of a peacekeeping mission.
