A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael D. Mulvaney, a management engineer, was offered today in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Abbott Road. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
Mr. Mulvaney, 52, died last Saturday in Mercy Hospital, after a short illness.
Born in Manhattan, he attended Lindhurst schools and earned his bachelor's degree in management engineering and an MBA in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Mr. Mulvaney operated Mulvaney and Associates for many years. He taught statistical process control at area colleges and was consultant to a number of local companies. Before falling ill he was a loan officer with the U.S. Small Business Administration's local disaster assistance office.
He volunteered at WNED-TV and Roswell Park Cancer Institute. A strong education advocate, he was a member of site-based management teams at city schools and was president of the district's first parent advisory council.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Kay O'Rourke; two daughters, Coleen and Kathleen, and a son, Michael, all of Buffalo; his mother, Margaret; two sisters, Patricia Rothany and Kathleen; and a brother, Kevin, all of New York City.
