LAWMAKERS VOTE TO BAN 'ALCOHOL VAPOR' MACHINES

Erie County lawmakers want to ban machines that sell products known as "alcohol without liquid" and "alcohol vapor."

Lawmakers voted unanimously this week to prohibit products that allow alcohol to be inhaled, passing directly into the bloodstream.

Legislator Demone A. Smith, D-Buffalo, a sponsor of the measure, said he believes the products have yet to reach Erie County but could make their way here, considering the large number of bars catering to college students.

A public hearing on the law will be scheduled, and then it will go to County Executive Joel A. Giambra for his signature.
