WOMAN STRUCK IN CROSS FIRE STILL IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Amber Keller, who was struck by a stray bullet April 7 during a shootout between a Buffalo police officer and a convicted felon, remains in critical condition in a coma, family members said Thursday.

Last Friday, the 20-year-old Cheektowaga woman was transferred to the hospice unit of Erie County Medical Center.

Officer Thomas P. English fired about four shots while returning fire from Mario J. Pittman on Genesee Street, near the Cheektowaga border, Buffalo police said.

Police suspect Keller was struck in the head by one of the officer's bullets that tore through the Genesee Street home where she was visiting a friend.
