Harris Beach attorney Mark C. Butler was honored by Fire Engineering with its Training Achievement Award. The award, presented by the editors of the industry trade publication, recognizes individuals for extraordinary accomplishments in fire service training. Butler is leader of the law firm's Fire Protection/EMS Provider Services Industry Team.
Allstate Insurance agent Herm Clouse qualified for a special statewide initiative designed to award agents who are dedicated to growing their local business, maintaining a presence in the community and improving the overall customer experience. Clouse achieved the first level of the four level recognition program that will run throughout 2005. An Allstate agent for eight years, his office is located at 68 Main St.
Jaeckle Fleischmann and Mugel attorney Joseph M. Reynolds recently participated at a National Business Institute seminar titled "New York Real Estate Title Law: Problems and Solutions." Reynolds presented on the topics of Title Insurance and Curing Title Problems. He is an associate in the firm's Real Estate and Economic and Land Development Practice Groups in the Buffalo and Amherst offices.
First Niagara Bank promoted Mary Beth Hickman to banking officer, project coordinator retail operations. Hickman has been with the bank since 1986 and most recently, was E-commerce operations manager.

The Waters of Orchard Park, a long-term care facility, promoted Jaime Houston, an LPN, to resident care coordinator and Donna Beaton to program director for the Alzheimer's/Dementia Unit. Houston joined the facility in 2004. Beaton, previously, was director of social services.

The Compass Group, an insurance and investment service provider, appointed Fredrick Pepperday and Matthew Conroy financial representatives at the Williamsville office. With 23 years in the financial services industry, Pepperday, most recently, was with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Conroy has worked in the financial services field for five years, most recently with MFS Investment Management in Boston. The firm is associated with New England Financial, a Boston-based financial service company.
MidCity Office Furniture managing partner Kurt Amico has purchased remaining ownership of the company from Barry Cohen, MidCity's former president. The sale was completed in early 2005 and was part of a planned buyout arrangement. The company was founded in 1970 by Burton Cohen and relocated to the Tri-Main Center in Buffalo in 2003 where it operates a showroom, administrative offices and warehouse.
Avox Systems of Lancaster was awarded a $181,350 contract by the U.S. Air Force Material Command's Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. for oxygen regulators and MRC Bearings of Jamestown was awarded a $109,402 contract by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command in Redstone Arsenal, Ala for unmounted anti-friction bearings.
Hospitality Marketing Incorporated of Western New York, a marketing, design and public relations firm specifically servicing the hospitality industry, recently opened in Buffalo. The company was established by hospitality marketing veteran Kevin Kuchta. Information at www.hmiwny.com.
The J.C. Penney Company Fund presented a $5,000 grant award to Junior Achievement of Western New York to fund JA's financial literacy, workforce preparation and job shadow programs for youth in local school and after school program sites.
