The Erie Community College baseball team handed Jamestown its first two league losses Thursday while pushing its own record to 13-0 in a doubleheader sweep, 6-4 and 7-6.
In the opener, Eric Kelly (West Seneca West) struck out five in six innings, and Mark Houck (Lake Shore) had two hits and scored twice. In the nightcap, Floyd Albert scattered three hits over six innings and struck out six to improve his record to 4-1. Bill Kenyon (Hamburg) drove in a pair of runs. Bobby Bell picked up a save in both games as the Kats improved their overall record to 22-9.
Elsewhere, D'Youville fell to 0-8 after dropping a pair at Keuka, 10-5, and 13-2.
SOFTBALL: Visiting University at Buffalo swept Youngstown State, 9-0 and 8-1, to improve to 15-23. Stacy Evans went the distance in the opener, striking out six while walking just two to improve her record to 7-12. The Bulls pounded 10 hits, two each by Julie Hibner and Mary Russell. In the second game, the Bulls scored three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Laura Kor had a home run among her two hits and drove in four runs. Sophie Barstad went the distance for the win, striking out five.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: St. Bonaventure announced the signing of guard Yolonda Chere Marshall from Hermitage, Pa. The 5-foot-7 Marshall averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 rebounds. 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game as a senior at Hickory High School.
