CD SALE RAISES $12,190 FOR NEW LIBRARY MATERIALS

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library brought in $12,190 from its sale of thousands of CDs last month, library officials said Thursday.

The Buffalo & Erie County system received 11,000 CDs -- including lots of duplicates of soft rock and light pop albums -- last summer after a settlement between 43 states and the recording industry in a price-fixing lawsuit.

Some of the CDs were distributed to branch libraries, but more than 6,000 were sold for $2 each during the sale the first week of March at the Central Library.

The money will be used to buy new CDs for the library system, officials said.
