Two robbers armed with a shotgun took a safe containing $3,000 in cash and checks during a home invasion early this morning on Fosdick Avenue, Central District police reported.

The homeowner told police that two unknown men knocked on his door at about 12:10 a.m. When he answered, they said they had the wrong house but then forced their way inside.

One robber, armed with the shotgun, ordered the man to give them everything he had. The two men later went to an upstairs bedroom, where they pointed the shotgun at the homeowner's wife. The thieves stole the white safe, along with the couple's house keys and the keys to the safe.
