A Lackawanna man pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and attempted murder in the shooting of two men during an argument outside his Olcott Street home.
After jury selection had been completed for his murder trial before State Supreme Justice Penny M. Wolfgang, George R. Malone III, 20, pleaded guilty in the death of Derrick Buchanan and the shooting of Andre L. Owens, Buchanan's cousin.
Malone has been in custody since surrendering after a four-day national manhunt. He faces 15 years to life in prison when sentenced July 19.
Deputy District Attorney Joseph Marusak said Malone shot Buchanan, 24, of Steelawanna Avenue, Lackawanna, twice at close range Sept. 6 while they argued over a friend's pit bull that had attacked one of Buchanan's aunts.
Owens, 40, of Humason Avenue, Buffalo, was shot once in the leg.
