The Medicaid program was enacted for U.S. citizens who cannot afford medical care. But over time, our elected officials have yielded to various special-interest groups and extended coverage far beyond what was originally intended or needed. It is now full of fraud, waste and abuse.
Citizens of foreign countries come here specifically for medical care, including childbirth, then leave the country without paying. Medicaid picks up the bill. Expensive name-brand drugs, rather than generic drugs, are funded. Elective surgery is provided by Medicaid. These and other examples of an out-of-control program detract from an otherwise noble effort to take care of our needy citizens. Our elected representatives must reduce the costs of this program. Medicaid should provide only legitimate medical care for needy U.S. citizens.
