PEDESTRIAN HOSPITALIZED; HIT-RUN DRIVER SOUGHT

Buffalo police are looking for the driver of a maroon 1995 four-door Oldsmobile who ran over a pedestrian Tuesday morning on Jefferson Avenue near Cayuga Street and drove away.

Omar Hill, 30, of Sherman Street, was in serious condition today in the intensive care unit of Erie County Medical Center.

At about 12:40 a.m., police got a call reporting that a man had been shot and was lying in the street.

Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene, where they found Hill with severe head injuries. Police said they do not believe he was shot.

Rural/Metro Medical Services paramedics transported Hill to the hospital.

At the crime scene, a detached license plate was found near Hill's body. A short time later, officers discovered a vehicle -- with a missing licensed plate and damaged exterior -- on Mulberry Street.

Witnesses told police that two or more men were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police said the driver faces first-degree assault charges. No arrest has been made.
