GUARD BITTEN BY INMATE IS TAKING HIV DRUGS

An Attica Correctional Facility officer is undergoing a 28-day regimen of an "HIV cocktail" after he was attacked and bitten by an inmate Sunday, state correctional officers said.

Authorities said inmate Jonathan Odom, who is serving 15 to 30 years on two counts of attempted murder and one count of tampering with a witness, was being let out of his cell to make a phone call when he attacked corrections officers.

During a "pat frisk" of Odom, he elbowed an officer in the face and, while being subdued, grabbed the officer's hand and bit his finger to the bone, authorities said.

The officer was treated in a local hospital and prescribed medication, officials said.
