JUDGE WON'T OVERTURN TWO OFFICERS' CONVICTIONS

A federal judge has refused to overturn the criminal convictions of two former Buffalo police Narcotics Squad detectives, one of whom could face up to 60 years in prison.

District Judge Richard J. Arcara said Monday that jurors had "sufficient evidence" to convict Sylvestre Acosta of seven felonies and Paul Skinner of three felonies after a trial that concluded last December.

The former detectives were convicted of civil rights violations and illegal use of their service revolvers during bogus drug raids.

Arcara scheduled a May 11 sentencing for Acosta, who could face up to 60 years in prison, and a May 27 sentencing for Skinner, who could face up to 13 years.
